Section 4(f): U.S. Department of Transportation Act

Section 4(f): U.S. Department of Transportation Act Section 4(f) of the 1966 U.S. Department of Transportation Act recognized that transportation development had the potential to impact park and recreational lands, wildlife and waterfowl refuges, and historic sites, and sought to mitigate those effects. The law applies only to the U.S. Department of Transportation, and like Section 106, Section 4(f) provides for stakeholder consultation. Overall, both Section 106 and Section 4(f) seek to find the best alternative(s) in a federal undertaking to preserve the historic integrity of any historic properties that have the potential to be affected
